You’ve recently got Invisalign to correct issues with your pearly whites and give you a more aesthetically appealing smile. Though you like the convenience of being able to pop them off your teeth to eat, brush, and floss, you’ve been having trouble removing them. To help make removing clear aligners easier, here are four methods you can try.

Method #1: Use Your Fingers

Since you don’t need any additional items to do this, using your fingers to take off your aligners is the most practical option. Release your aligner from your back molars on both sides of your mouth. Do this by hooking your fingernails under the edge of the tray and gently pulling downward. Release the aligners toward the front of your mouth, and they should easily lift off your pearly whites. Invisalign attachments may make it more difficult to remove the trays. If one side isn’t releasing easily, don’t tug on the aligners as this may cause them to break. Take your time and gently slide your nail under them until they release.

Method #2: Using Paper Towels

If using your fingers to remove your aligners doesn’t work for you, try using paper towels to help increase your grip on them. Take a paper towel in each hand and place them over the back molars. Firmly grasp the aligner tray and pull it down so that they release from your molars. Gradually move towards the front of your mouth until the aligners have completely released from your teeth and can be popped off.

Method #3: Use Surgical Gloves

For some people, surgical gloves are the answer to their aligner removal issues. They can increase grip in the same way as paper towels, but they’re much easier to maneuver and make removing clear aligners a breeze. Household gloves don’t work as well since they’re thicker and more difficult to use, so make sure you have the right kind. Additionally, ensure that the gloves are clean before you insert them into your mouth.

Method #4: Use an Aligner Removal Tool

If none of these methods work well for you, consider purchasing an aligner removal tool. These have been specifically designed to help patients remove their clear aligners and are small enough to carry with you everywhere. These tools work by hooking under the aligner and make it easy to lift the tray off your teeth. They are especially useful for people with Invisalign attachments.

As you can see, there are many methods that will help you easily remove your aligners from your teeth. Just make sure to only take your trays off when it’s necessary and wear them for at least 20-22 hours each day to achieve the straight, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted!
