The National Association of Dental Plans\nestimates that only about 2.8% of patients with PPO plans meet or exceed their\nannual maximum. By using your benefits now, not only do you get the most out of\nyour insurance, but you\u2019ll also help ensure that your smile stays clean and healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Does Dental Insurance Cover?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your PPO plan will most likely put an emphasis on preventive\ntreatments meant to help you detect and treat minor problems in your mouth\nbefore they become severe oral health issues that are more difficult (and more\nexpensive!) to treat. Most insurance carriers follow a 100-80-50 coverage\nstructures as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Routine preventive and diagnostic care are 100%\ncovered. This usually means that your insurance will pay for two dental\ncleanings and examinations every year. The coverage also often includes an\nannual X-ray that can help your dentist find oral health issues that wouldn\u2019t\nbe visible otherwise.<\/li><li>Basic procedures are 80% covered. What counts as\na \u201cbasic procedure\u201d might vary depending on your plan, but it usually includes\nfillings, gum disease treatment, root canals and tooth extractions.<\/li><li>Major procedures are 50% covered. Again, the\ndefinition of a major procedure depends on the insurance carrier. In most cases\nit will refer to crowns, bridges, dentures and other types of restorations. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that you\u2019ll need to meet a deductible before\ninsurance kicks in. However, most plans will waive the deductible for preventive\nand diagnostic care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that these are just general guidelines; you should\nreview your benefits to see how coverage applies in your case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Is It Important to Take Advantage of Your Dental Insurance?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Using your dental insurance means you\u2019re getting important\ntreatment that will protect your teeth and gums from decay and disease. The cleanings\ncovered by your plan will remove plaque and tartar from places that you\u2019ve\nmissed while brushing and floss on your own, and your dentist can find cavities\nand gum disease in their earliest stages during an examination. If an issue is\nfound, it\u2019ll be better for your health \u2013 and your bank account \u2013 if you have it\ntreated as soon as possible. For example, a small cavity can be filled, but if\nit\u2019s left alone for too long, you might lose the tooth altogether and need to\nget a replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk to your dentist about the state of your oral health and\nask about what kind of treatments you need in the future. If you can have a\nprocedure done now, it\u2019s best to schedule it before your insurance resets\n(which means you\u2019ll have to pay the deductible again).
